Harry Potter Lego Sets – What else will your child want?

by Cheema Beckham

For quite some time, I kept wondering who was Harry Potter and why everyone kept chatting about him. All the kids and elders around me were mad about him and the fantastic writing skills of JK Rowling.

I was curious to know what was so special in the Harry Potter books that made them so popular around the globe. Finally I decided to get first hand knowledge and started off with the first book of the series “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”.

Bob the Builder Lego

My feelings about Bob the Builder Lego

by Cheema Beckham

Bob, the Builder is one of the few cartoon series that received huge appreciation, the day it started. The idea of a team of builders appealed to the children and parents alike. Seeing th success of Bob, Lego launched Bob the Builder toys, which were as successful as the cartoons.

The construction machines and the figures are really great. Even I stop to look at them when I see them in a shop or at a friend`s house. I want to play with them! But feel the children will get annoyed if I pick one up. (So I do it secretly,.....shhhhh!)

Made from only a small number of large bricks, these toys were designed more as racing car toys than a construction toy, and included a launcher element (which doubled up as a storage container) that could be used to propel the vehicles." Selecting Toys For the Two-Year Old

Selecting Toys For the Two-Year Old

Selecting Toys For the Two-Year Old

By Beth W. Johnson

How do you go about selecting a toy for a two-year-old? What do you buy? Your visit to the toy store only muddles the decision-making process because there are so many neat ones from which to choose. You prefer that it be a learning toy. You need help. If you don't know or have any idea ask questions.
These are the questions and the order in which I'd ask them.
1.    What interests the child? Observing the child or asking the parents is a good place to start. Most parents will readily give you one or more suggestions if you ask them to.
2.    Is it age-appropriate? Manufacturers usually give an age range for a particular toy. It might be age appropriate, but if he's not interested, it will be forgotten
3.    Is it safe? Again many manufacturers state "not appropriate for children under-." then give the age. If it isn't stated, check for sharp edges, small parts that could be pulled off or swallowed, and any defect you might see. You can also log on to the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site to see if the toy is subject to any recall.
4.    Is it colorful? Colorful toys, with lots of reds, yellows, greens or blues capture his attention visually.
5.    Can she manipulate it? Children seem to like toys that make noise, can be pushed, pulled, turned, twisted or banged. These hold their interest longer and enhance the development of gross and fine motor skills.
6.    Does it lend itself to creative or pretend play? Toys that encourage this enhance the child's language development and problem solving capabilities.
7.    Is it easy to hold and maneuver?
Armed with answers to these key questions, you're prepared for selecting toys for the two-year old.
For more information on selecting toys for the two-year old, visit Child Enriching Gifts. This site explores the sensory motor development of children from birth to five years and offers suggestions for gifts, toys and activities to enhance development of these skills. Lego Party Ideas

Lego Party Ideas... what child doesn't love to play with Lego toys? When you are planning your next child's birthday party why not take a look at Legos for your theme. You can find plenty of fun party supplies when Legos is the party theme. Lots of kids party games and even some easy ways to decorate that special Lego birthday cake.

When you are planning a child's birthday idea, why not go for a themed one. Initially it may seem like there is more organizing but once you have an agenda, it is really simple. For example, most boys are into Lego in some way or another. It is a great toy for constructing all types of things, from houses to working models of cars or trains.

There are plenty of Lego party ideas to choose from. Lego covers so many different themes themselves you could find yourself having a Star Wars party with Lego Star Wars characters, that is a very popular Lego theme. Or go with a SpongeBob Lego theme, a Lego firetruck theme or a police party or even a beach party if you chose the Lego City Coastguard Theme. Whichever Lego Party Idea you chose, send out Legoville party invitations letting your party guests what your theme is. Themed invitations are one of the many items you can choose from Legoville party supplies.

As Lego is such a colorful theme, you can ask the guests to dress up in different colors like a costume. When they arrive offer to paint their face. You will obviously need to check that the child has no allergies and don't paint over open cuts. Keep it simple i.e. have a different sponge for each color. Kids just love having their faces painted and they will not care that you are not Picasso. It will kick off the party on a great note.

You can carry on the color theme with the cake and the sandwiches. Using strips of colored icing will help make the cake look like Lego bricks. You can use layers of different colors jelly for deserts and food colorings will transform the plainest sandwich.

Lego party game ideas can be adapted to any of the themes you have chosen. For example, if you go for Star Wars you can play a variation of cops and robbers with one side being the dark side and the other Yoda's team. If you have gone for a color theme i.e. face painting etc, you could use some balloon games. Favorites include Catch me where all the guests receive a balloon with their name on it. The idea is that they have to keep this balloon or any nearest one in the air until the music stops. Whoever doesn't manage to keep the balloon floating is out.

If you want to have some relatively quiet time to calm the kids down, you could play draw the funny face on the balloon. The children pass around balloons and each person has to draw something for the face. So one draws the eyes, another draws the mouth and so on. Whoever pops the balloon is out and the last remaining child wins. You will obviously need a ready supply of balloons.

Use Lego party favor supplies to make up the contents of the party bags. You can buy individual packs of Lego that will have enough bricks to build one small item. Bubbles, crayons, coloring pages, temporary tattoos and stickers are always great for adding to the Lego party bags. Have lots of Lego fun with these Lego party ideas.

Building Inspiration With Lego

Christmas Gift Ideas - Building Inspiration With Lego
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sally_Header]Sally Header

Christmas is genuinely a time of giving and sharing for most people and for families in particular.

It is very easy to get caught up in a spending frenzy, children in particular are full or "pester power" at this time of year as they see lots of advertising in almost every conceivable medium!

So what should we do? Pockets or purses are not unlimited and yet who wants to be the person to give a gift where the paper and packaging are more exciting than the contents?

Top ten lists abound in both the USA and in the UK. The Toy Retailers Association (TRA) list of Dream Toys for the 2010 holiday season includes a mixture of traditional and technology games as likely best-sellers.

So how about Lego for going back to basics?

The Lego City Airport set included on the Dream List, is quite expensive as a set but does include a great number of inspiring pieces.

What child wouldn't love creating a jet plane or organising passengers moving through revolving doors, X-ray machines and through the Airport Terminal before the Airport Control Tower gives permission for take-off?

Alternatively, the Lego City Fire Station set includes all you need to create a fire truck, the Fire Chief's car, a two garage station with figures and working ladders. You can even rescue the cat from the top of the tree.

Given that the latest Harry Potter movie launched in November, you can be sure that any of the associated, themed Lego sets will also be popular this Christmas including the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, Hagrid's Hut, Quidditch Match, Freeing Dobby or the Hogwart's Express Train Set.

Surely anybody who knows a child with a passion for Harry Potter will find inspiration here!

If you're looking for something for slightly younger children, surely Toy Story is another winner for Christmas and again, there are many sets to choose from. A best-seller this year is expected to be the Western Train Chase set which has a great collection of figures, the pieces to make an engine and several train cars with opening doors and roof traps, a quality track for the trains to ride on - you could even add a motor if you wanted!

These sets, and any of the Lego compilations are great ways to keep your child happy for Christmas and for months to come.

Maybe you've never thought much beyond "Great, they're enjoying this." but it's also good to know that by encouraging their building skills you are also developing quite sophisticated learning, planning and co-ordination skills, almost by stealth! This is a great example of something that is lots of fun, will keep a child happily occupied on their own or with friends and is definitely doing them good at the same time. The opportunities for developing role play skills and co-operation are endless - though may require a little supervision for younger children at play.

Have a look at for different review sites and price comparison sites though as the internet means you can really catch some great bargains by shopping online.

When you give a gift of Lego, you can be certain the fun will last long beyond Christmas!

Play Well

Have you ever wondered where LEGOS obtained their name? When Ole Kirk invented the popular construction toy, he offered a prize to whoever came up with the best name. Actually, Ole Kirk himself came up with the name, which he derived from the two Danish words 'leg godt', meaning 'play well'. Ole Kirk's original toy was made of wood, but later he changed as plastic became available. Being little regarded among toy salesmen as high-quality toy material, many plastic toys were sent back, Ole Kirk's LEGOS among them. Ole Kirk wondered sadly. To all appearances, his idea had failed, but the humble seed still remained.    Read More

Lego Instructions - Isn't It Time You Invented Your Own

Lego Instructions - Isn't It Time You Invented Your Own
By Kevin R Burns

You'll find full Lego instructions included in most of the Group's theme sets - be they Lego's own classic themes, or themes which the Company has licensed from well-known cartoon and film franchises.
Lego's long-running classic themes include such greats as the Company's Space, Castle, City and Pirates sets, all of which boast several sub-themes. Whilst licensed themes include extremely popular kits such as the Star Wars, Sponge Bob, Toy Story, Harry Potter, and Spider Man sets, not to mention numerous others.
However, these famous little plastic building bricks are renowned for their durability so, what happens if the instructions for the kits get lost along the way? Well, that's no problem really, for you'll discover plenty of sites on the Internet where you can download instructions for free, not to mention the Company's own website.
But, as well as being durable, versatile and good value-for-money, it shouldn't be forgotten that the main beauty of these colorful building bricks is that they're a tremendously fun way of developing children's creative skills.
So yes, Lego sets and kits are a wonderful way of first getting kids interested in the plastic construction game but, once this interest has been aroused, why not purchase the more affordable buckets of bricks and invent and develop your own constructions?
Because the plastic blocks are so durable and easy-to-clean, you could even buy them resale by placing adverts under the "Wanted" section of local press, or by checking out what's on offer online at eBay. Just make sure the bricks are the right size and in the proper Lego colors of red, blue, yellow, green, tan, black, white or grey. Invest a bit of time, and you're sure to unearth some fabulous bargains which will lead to hours of affordable family fun.
Once you and your family have the hang of inventing and building your own constructions, why not write instructions for these? That way, friends and other family members can try them out.
Remember that your plastic bricks will last a long time, and could well end up being passed on to consequent generations. Wouldn't it be great for these future generations to have photos and instructions of their family's own, unique Lego inventions?
Not only that... you'll also discover heaps of sites online where you can upload photos and instructions of your own inventive constructions, so that you can share them with other Lego fans.
So, put your thinking caps on and get inventive! It's time to start building your own constructions and writing your own Lego instructions!

Lego Starwars What Makes This Themed Set So Unusual?

Lego Starwars What Makes This Themed Set So Unusual?

Lego Starwars - What Makes This Themed Set So Unusual?

(Star Wars is a trademark of Lucas Arts)

By Kevin R Burns

The Lego Starwars themed sets are amazingly popular Worldwide. But, they're also rather unusual. Why's that?... Well, it's because they have a military tone.
Did you ever wonder why, with so many different Lego sets on the market, you'll find it exceedingly hard to discover any directly military-related themes? The reason for this is that the Group's Danish founder - Ole Kirk Christiansen - preferred it that way. He was very much opposed to the idea of war being introduced into kiddies' games, and disapproved of it being considered child's play. Consequently, you'll discover that the majority of themes which Lego licenses from cartoon and film franchises - for example, Sponge Bob, Harry Potter, Toy Story, Batman, Spiderman etc - tend not to be military related.
The Company also now states that, in spite of the superbly successful sales achieved with its themed sets, it would prefer to return to its own characters and themes, and rely more on these in the future. So, if you're a Star Wars fanatic, now might be an excellent time to consider purchasing and collecting this popular Lego theme - before they're all discontinued, hard-to-get, and expensive!
After identifying that there would be a high market demand, the Lego Group designed and developed sets for each of the Star Wars films - from The Phantom Menace through to The Clone Wars -, sets which represented scenes, items, and characters from the actual films. Vehicles and weapons would be constructed out of the famous interlocking plastic bricks, plus other parts. And, mini-figures would be included to represent the well-known characters, such as Jango Fett.
As with anything that comes from the Lego Group, you can rest assured that your children will not only be playing with safe, durable toys. They'll also be developing important creative skills through hours of enjoyable play, building the likes of Starfighters complete with ejection seats, Superweapons, bomb droppers, attack cruisers, pirate tanks, and shuttles... to name but a few fascinating objects!
What's more, kiddies can play with them alone or along with friends... as long as Mom and Dad haven't pinched the sets first to amuse themselves with!
As well as being thoroughly tested for safety and good play value, you'll also find that most ranges are compatible with each other. What's more, being made out of strong, resilient plastic means they're extremely easy-to-clean, and will last for ages. You'll even be able to pass them on to the next generation.
As with numerous of their other themes, the Star Was Lego sets became so popular that the Company branched out and introduced related videogames as well. You can even download wallpaper and screensavers for your computer.
So, start searching local shops, the Internet, or eBay, and enjoy some serious family fun with Lego Starwars!
Kevin Burns is creator of Burns-Brick-Country.com, where you can read about and share your stories of the famous Lego Starwars theme sets.

Lego Blocks Why Have They Successfully Endured The Test Of Time

Lego Blocks Why Have They Successfully Endured The Test Of Time

Lego Blocks - Why Have They Successfully Endured The Test Of Time

By Kevin R Burns

Lego blocks were originally patented on January 28th 1958 - that's more than 50 years' ago. Yet, did you know that you could still use any Lego building bricks you might have bought from that year with the company's current-day bricks?
In to-day's throw-away society, very few products can boast such a remarkably long shelf-life, and the durability of these attractive, colourful blocks is just one reason out of many for their outstanding popularity. But, before we consider the other reasons, let's take a brief look at the beginnings of this renowned plastic brick...
Origins Of Lego
The original founder of today's colourful plastic building brick was a Danish carpenter named Ole Kirk Christiansen who, at first, concentrated on making wooden toys.
In 1934, the carpenter named his company "Lego", from the Danish "leg godt" which, roughly translated, means "play well". However, it wouldn't be until the year 1940 that the company started to offer plastic toys. And, it wasn't until nearly 10 years' later - in 1949 - that interlocking bricks were introduced, sporting the now-famous round studs on one side, and rectangular hollow on the other.
Reasons For Their Success
When originally introduced, the little building bricks were not particularly versatile. Also, plastic was not considered in a particularly favorable light when compared to wood. However, the Company, with its motto of: "Kun det bedste er godt nok", or: "Only the best is good enough", continually worked on and improved its toy.
Nowadays, it's renowned Worldwide, perhaps being fairly unique in the fact that it pleases both children and their parents: kids derive hour upon hour of fun from it; whilst Mom and Dad recognize that playing with the toy is developing their offspring's creativity, dexterity, as well as problem-solving faculties.
Here are just a handful of other reasons for the never-ending popularity of the bright little bricks:
• Safe, suitable, and fun for children of all ages... adults too!
• Versatile - most ranges are compatible with each other.
• Durable - you can even pass them on from one generation to another.
• Value-for-money - once purchased, they could last longer than you!
• Easy-to-clean - just wash in warm, soapy water.
• Easily-obtainable - from local stores, the Internet, or eBay.
• Environmentally-friendly production and marketing.
• Many different styles - from the ordinary building bricks through to boxed, up-to-date themes such as Harry Potter, Star Wars and Space Police, which include all people and items to fit the particular theme.
The Company continually strives to improve its product. Nowadays, you'll even find Lego Education Centers, complete with qualified instructors, and fun, Legoland Parks, where you and your family can enjoy castles, dinosaurs, pirates, wild animals, and even water parks.
Fads come and go but, one thing's for sure... Lego blocks are definitely here to stay!
